Approaches To Gamer Identity Research: Scopus Bibliometric Analysis Authors Daniel Eugenio Salinas Lara Tecnológico de Monterrey https://orcid.org/0009-0009-7401-8354 Keywords: gamer identity, video game culture, video games, bibliometrics, literature review Abstract Gamer identity has emerged from the normalization of video games and their consumption as part of the daily life of audiences around the world, and recently there has been a more pronounced academic interest in its study. This article is a bibliometric analysis of the academic work about gamer identity found in the Scopus database and aims to be a starting point to knowing the most common thematic and theoretical approaches to study the phenomenon. Aided by search refinement and the R Studio tool Bibliometrix, the findings are: a prevalence of qualitative techniques, a focus on young populations, a lack of research on Latin American populations, gender as a common theoretical framework, a pronounced interest in online gaming, and a Western-American epistemic monopolization. Although results correspond to a single database, they serve to detect the most common trends and thus encourage the use of novel approaches to nuance the phenomenon.
