Abstract

Access to employment for people with disabilities (PwD) presents barriers such as discriminatory recruitment practices, lack of reasonable accommodation, poor accessibility or stereotypes. In order to identify the key factors of career development that favor non-discrimination of PwD, a case study was carried out where semi-structured interviews analyzed in ATLAS.ti were conducted with workers with disabilities, their managers and the recruitment manager of a clothing company in Medellin. The findings showed that referencing other inclusion experiences, mobilizing stereotypes, relying on intermediary institutions and making reasonable accommodations are key factors for a career development that does not lead to discrimination. The study has relevance for academics and organizations interested in promoting labor inclusion.
