Knowledge networks, social capital and innovation: the case of the aquaculture sector of northwest mexico

Starting from three theoretical approaches (knowledge networks, social capital and innovation systems), this article discusses how build networks of knowledge in the aquaculture of northwest Mexico. The research adopted a methodology based on a case study that combined documentary sources and empirical research, based on 28 in-depth interviews and 72 questionnaires semi structured applied to MSMES aquaculture. It is concluded that while in this region there is a set of institutional capacities in the aquaculture sector, we need to strengthen further the interactions and the exchange of knowledge between aquaculture producers, academia and government in order to strengthen the social capital of knowledge need to enhance regional and local development.References
