Abstract

In this study, the extraction efficiency of a power system is evaluated by microwave hydrodistillation for obtaining hydrosols from three herbs (Eucalyptus globulus, Mentha viridis and Cymbopogon citratus). The results obtained show that, for a greater amount of hydrolate (42% for mint, 36% for lemongrass and 33% for ecualipto) is necessary to use extraction times close to 45 minutes biomass concentrations of 160 g; Moreover, from the energy balance it is obtained that to obtain 0.98 g of KJ 1158.952 hydrolate are necessary; Moreover, taking into account the results obtained, it is possible to determine that the environmental impact generated by the unit operation employed is high; Given the expense of 1,650 kWh has a footprint of between 1320 to 220 g of CO2.
