Propuesta de prescripción del ejercicio en obesos

Resumen

La obesidad ha sido llamada la enfermedad del siglo XXI debido a los altos índices de incidencia sobre la población mundial, y está asociada a múltiples patologías cardiovasculares y metabólicas, disminuyendo la calidad de vida de los individuos y generando fuerte impacto económico sobre las instituciones de salud y los gobiernos. El ejercicio físico planificado es una alternativa para combatir la obesidad y las comorbilidades asociadas, pero éste debe contar con unas características de intensidad, duración, estructura e individualización específicas que lo diferencian de la actividad física normal. Los programas de prevención y promoción en salud, son la mejor opción cuando de relación inversión-impacto se habla, y ahorrando a los gobiernos altas sumas de dinero en tratamientos, cirugías, incapacidades y medicamentos. Por lo tanto, en este artículo se pretende hacer una reflexión en torno a las investigaciones realizadas por diferentes autores sobre el ejercicio para los obesos, y con base en lo anterior, y a la experiencia adquirida en el Programa de Prevención de riesgos cardiovasculares del Politécnico Colombiano Jaime Isaza Cadavid, los autores hacen una propuesta de la prescripción del ejercicio, en la cual tratan de dar un acercamiento a la dosificación adecuada de la carga de entrenamiento físico, debido a que no existen muchos referentes en la literatura que hagan práctico el conocimiento adquirido en las múltiples investigaciones en esta población.
