Abstract

Obesity has been called the disease of the XXI century because of the high incidence rates in the world's population, and it is associated with multiple cardiovascular and metabolic diseases, reducing the quality of life of individuals and generating significant economic impact on healthcare institutions and governments. Planned Physical exercise is an alternative to fight obesity and associated comorbidities, but it must have features of intensity, time, structure and specific individualization that differentiate it from regular physical activity. Prevention and health encouragement programs are the best choice when it comes to impact-investment, saving the government large sums of money on treatments, surgeries, drugs and disabilities. Therefore, this article is intended to reflect about researching works by different authors on the topic exercise for the obese, and based on this, and the experience gained in the Prevention of cardiovascular risks Program of the Colombian Polytechnic Jaime Isaza Cadavid, the authors make a proposal for the prescription of exercise, in which they try to give an insight into the proper dosage of physical training load, because the literature about exercise prescription in obese is not clear.
