Este artículo aborda esta brecha mediante un análisis de tendencias de investigación sobre el tema, mediante el algoritmo Tree of Science. Se analizaron documentos de alto impacto en Scopus y Web of Science, y se identificaron tres tendencias clave: seguridad marítima y desarrollo sostenible, gestión y política pesquera, y crecimiento sostenible para economías costeras. Se destaca la necesidad de modelos de gobernanza integrados que promuevan la distribución equitativa de recursos y prácticas sostenibles. Estos hallazgos guían a responsables de políticas y partes interesadas en el fomento de comunidades costeras resilientes, lo que contribuye a los Objetivos de Desarrollo Sostenible. El análisis ofrece una visión integral para el desarrollo social, económico y ambiental, en contextos marítimos y costeros.
