Proposa towards the integration of LMS Plataforms and 3D virtual worlds through a service-oriented architecture

Abstract

This paper presents a proposal for integrating Learning Management Systems (LMS) and 3D Virtual Worlds (3DVW), based on open communication schemes, aiming to take advantage of technology features given by 3DVW platforms to propose immersive activities. In order to accomplish this integration, three activity types are proposed which can be developed through the interaction between an LMS and a 3DVW. A serviceoriented software architecture is adopted, based on REST (Representational State Transfer) model architecture. The proposal was tested by means of a study case in which the necessary components to integrate Moodle LMS and OpenSim 3DVW were developed.
